car won't go into gear!
Okay, so I was about to head for work, about to start my car and notice that my clutch has a lot more play than usual. Start it up, try to put it in reverse, but it doesn't engage (it actually grinded). So I try puttin it into 1st, but it won't engage either (doesn't grind, but I didn't want to force it). Doesn't engage in any gear unless the car is off.
I checked my clutch fluid level, and it's normal. I'm guessing it has something to do with the clutch? Yesterday, the car was working perfectly fine. Anybody have ideas on what to do/check before I bring it to a mechanic?
TIA.
car is a 94 civic cx btw.

yes, deffinatly a clutch problem. check the slave cylinder and see if its moving, just pull the rubber boot back and have someone push the clutch in and out. if its moving right then its the clutch itself. which means the trans has to come out.

blew a spring out of the disc....shut it off, put it in gear, then start it with the clutch in as usual. you should be able to drive around a little...but use that driving for going wherever to get it fixed....because this is your problem.

its def the clutch i had an eclipse back in the day and i was at the gas station. got gas and went to take off and car just grinded ... it wouldnt go into any gears unless car was off. had to get it towed and a new clutch put in... it was a bi+ch but now got a honda and its easy to put the clutch in i actually jus installed a new one in my hatchy... all i have to say is good luck and the sooner you get a new one the sooner youll be on the road.

Oh, so that's what's wrong with my Integra! I figured the trans had to come off. There's probably more to it than that as the car has over 220k and it grinds going into 3rd.
Exedy / Daiken makes a good OEM replacement clutch.

I had the same problem twice so in my experience your clutch disk took a poop.
It could just be the clutch, but if you keep trying to drive it and grind it, then yeah synchros will die too.
I am using an exedy clutch and so far so good but, I've already blown up an ACT, and a Competition clutch.
Good luck with the repairs!!

But if your clutch is bad it would grind even with good synchros right?
