For the surging idle, try unplugging the evap purge solenoid.

Don't thank me yet, lol. It might not solve your problem. Leave the vacuum lines alone. Just unplug the electrical connection, nothing else. This isn't my picture, but it's the thing that's bolted to the fuel rail:

cool man, thanks! I will give that a shot. My car never had the issue till i changed from my stock p2t to the obd1 p28. An if i babby foot it it wont do it at all. But if i hit v-tec a few times it does.

I will have to try it an see, what about getting rid of that sensor all together?

I hear alot about people who just get rid of it an conect the hose? i think is what i am getting out of all the post's iv read/searched.

Q-dose that valve stay open with that switch unplugged?

thanks for yall's help!

No problem, I hope it works out for you. Years ago I had this problem when I switched to Hondata's S200, and unplugging the electrical connection solved the problem.

I would leave everything in place, unless your tuner tells you otherwise. I seem to recall that some of the newer engine management systems allow control over the evap purge system. I recently got rid of the charcoal canister and now run a hose with a filter because I need the space, but otherwise there's no need to remove it that I can think of. It seems that my car's throttle response has been very inconsistent since I did this, but it could be another unrelated problem. It's "jerky," if that makes sense.

I'd like to hear some expert opinions on how everything functions when it's unpowered. Is it truly sealed shut, or does the manifold vacuum suck some of the fuel vapor out if the pressure exceeds a certain point?

okay. So i unpluged that sensor an it helped but, problem still comes up after driving for about 15 min.

If i hit about 4k i get cel 3, map sensor, an a idle that goes from 800rpm to 1400 rpm. I can turn my car off, an it goes off.

The car is not tuned yet, an has no WG spring in it so i can drive it till i get her tuned.

I have some more questions, an any info helps!

Q- Im now obd1, so can i disconect the other 02 sensor?
j/w

Q-Even though i will only build like, 1psi of boost hahah if im lucky (due to open WG). Should i retard my timing?

Q-what should i do to avoid my cel 3 from triping everytime i hit boost? even just 1psi it goes off, an my idle starts bouncing.

thanks for reading

I think you can unplug the secondary O2. I'm not sure though. Are you asking because your getting a test pipe or just to see if you can?

So, you're driving your car around with an OBD1 ECU and no base map?

That's because a stock p28 has a map for a d16z6 not a gsr. And even if it was chipped it can't open the butterlies on the gsr intake manifold unless you solder in the neccessary ecu components.

KENetics1 -
My car has a b16a2, its a 2000 si em1. I dont think they have secondary's. so i dont think that is it...

roachsboosted16-
Can you help me out with a little more info? I looked at the wiring befor an thought it did not appear to be nessary. I thought it looked right already. I could be wrong tho!

My car no longer surges unless i get my CEL 3, map sensor. I set my vafc back to normal fuel curve (cause it was tuned for all motor) that seemed to help. . My cel kicks on around 4k. Or if i let it build up any boost.

Is it cause its seeing boost?

My set up is a obd1 conversion, with a p28.

I dont know wich jumper harness i have, A, or B. Is it stamped on it? could i check it?

An, yeah im driving my car around with out a map set up cause im waiting to get it tuned here in the next few weeks. My e-01 wont let it build boost past 2psi. So i sould be good?

Thanks everyone! the info helps me out alot!

uh, you do realize you're trying to run a b16 with a map made for a d16z6 right?

well if you looked i wasn't quoting you i was quoting LastGenEK who said he was running a stock p28 with a gsr engine. That's the reason why his car was running so rough as he put it. I was just trying to state the fact that he was wrongly informing you as to the obd1 ecu causing his car to run "rough." You're basically in the same boat as he is as you both are running maps for a d16z6 when your engine is a b16. You need to get it chipped with a b16 basemap setup for boost first before you plug it in.

Thanks!

okay, see i was told by people that i could run a p28 with my b16a2 an not have any issues as long as i dont get into to boost (like 3-4 psi if any max) . But not for racing, just to work an back type of thing.

Good info! should i put my p2t stock 2000 si ecu back into my car untill im ready to get her tuned?

thanks again! any addional info helps as well..

At the very least i guess. If it were me I wouldn't drive till I at least had a chipped p28 with a basemap but if you wanna risk it than gl to you.
