Default Engine Swap Vs Turbo Build Suggestions For Rookie

Hey guys I'm new to the civic world. I spent my earlier years playing music (not that anyone cares). But I recently bought a 98 honda civic cx hatch. Over the last half a year I have just been reading and learning about cars and enjoying my new hobby.

But This summer I have another car lined up to drive while I work on this one and have a few things I would like to accomplish. One being either an engine swap or build a turbo on my stock engine. I have two friends, both who have been working on cars for awhile now and one is telling me to boost and one says an engine swap is the way to go.

I am curious as to any input/suggestions I can get from you guys. Thanks.

It really depends on what you want to gain out of the build.

Do you just want a fast car or do you want something that will last and be reliable?

boosting ur stock motor is gonna be a waste of money...start with a simple engine swap and just keep learning more new stuff from HT

I agree Get a motor swap, like a b16 or b18. That power without the hassle of tuning and other stuff that might get messed up. Then in the future, if you really wanna boost, u have a nice powerful motor to boost so you will end up being alot faster.

I think that I read somewhere that the b18b was the easiest swap to do...Thanks for all the input so far!

b18b is a pretty much direct swap so it would be easy. And it would be even easier to boost it in the future

yea a h22 for your first swap... i'd suggest no. i'd say just go with the b18b since it's super easy and you learn SO much from your first swap.

all b-series motors are basicly the same, the only diffrence is wither you have to change to OBD-I or stick with OBD-II, and weither you have to wire in vtec if you don't already have it

actuall a b18 with a wet 80 shot should get you into the 13's so maybe look at that too, oh and a good tune as well

No you can get your ecu chipped and instead of running hondata you can run crome, uberdata, turbo edit... Just depends how much money you have. It is also not a bad idea to find out what program you tuner can work with.
