turbo too small for topmount manifold?

So i have been using a ramhorn manifold for about the past two years with a precision sc60 turbo. Looking to get a top mount manifold this year and a couple people tell me the turbo is too small for that mani. its just a t3/t4 but would it matter? Ill be shooting for 450whp on it this time and thought the manifold would help a little more up top. What you guys think?

well i made 438whp last year, I think it has a little more in it. just looking to make a little more power without turning up the boost.
I don't think there is that big of a hp advantage running a topmount compared to a ramhorn. There are usually 2 kinds of people that run the topmount:
1. People who like to showoff their turbo
2. People who have to run them to because they run too big of a turbo to fit inside the engine bay
Although true advantage to running a topmount is that it's a lot easier to change out the turbo compared to a ramhorn where you have to take the whole manifold off the to change it. So in your case i would just stick with the ramhorn and 450whp is definitely attainable with a sc60.

yea thats true, my turbo isnt that big so its nothing to show off. but taking the turbo and dp off on the ramhorn is a pain in the ***. Ive heard that the long runners of the top mount help spool a little bit throughout the powerband and has more emphasis on top end power than most other manifolds. I kinda just wanted to change things up a lil this year too.
I've actually heard opposite where the topmount makes more power but takes longer to spool because of the longer pipes. Maybe upgrade your turbo instead, gt35r time

x2...when i switched from my topmount to a shorty, i picked up over 1000rpm worth of spool and 50whp and 50wtq in the midrange. This is the reason i'm sticking with a shorty style manifold even if i'm shooting for 400+whp

hmmm, well ill be pissed if i lose that much rpms of full boost. I already sold my other manifold and hes about to start making the new one, so we will see. Ill let you guys know the difference...

It will be more responsive up front, but with the smaller and shorter runners, they will not be the best for maximizing exhaust VOLUME, which is what the larger turbos deliver. You'll see a little bit of improvement in the lower end, but will lose a large amount of top end power.

why do u want full boost at such a low rpm.I bet all u do is spin the tires off.I have a t70 t4 with top mount and i hit full bost around 5500 vtec area.I like it better cause im gripping more then just spinning but afyer 6k it spins lol im making a little over 380 on 91 octane @ 10 psi.

If you like having a fat powerband, dont go for a topmount. It will more efficiently use the available exhaust energy in the higher rpms while sacrificing low and mid range power to some extent. IMO, get something like a shorty with a low-angle collector. PM RC000E about his "Pagan Goathead." Of all the turbo manifolds that come to mind, this one fits you the best IMO

thanks for all the opinions and help guys. The new manifold is already underway so I guess I just have to try out a topmount and see how it goes. If it affects ithe setup adversely ill probably just try something else. hopefully it all works out but ill throw up a dyno graph here when its all together.
