i bought a 97 civic ex and the block says d16y7 now a friend of mine said it might have v-tech hes not sure but take a picture and ask you guys, we also argued about the maifold and throttle body (especially this) because i need a new IACV and i need to know if i should get the v-tec one or the non v-tec one

 

d16y7's are non-vtec

i know that, that is y im asking and providing a picture because a friend said i might have vtec that the previous owner might have did a mini me

 

If you look at the valve cover you will see a breather line from the left rear corner, under that breather line is your V-tec solenoid bolted to the head.

You have v-tec.

how can i tell which manifold and throttle body i have?

 

you do in fact have vtec...you can see the solenoid hidden under the hose to the left of the pic...another way that usually works is the position of the spark plugs...when they are towards the front, you usually have vtec as to when they are on the rear its usually non vtec

thank you for your help but i still have oen major question remaining, my car is idleing funny and i need to know what kind of iacv i need, is there a difference in the y7 throttle body to the y8?

 

Thats a y8 manifold. and i see a vtec solenoid.

 

you either have a y8 or y5 mini me swap... and get the iacv for the y8, not the y7

Please do not provide incorrect information Marcs1337:

The spark plugs on the front of the valve cover 'being a Vtec engine' ONLY applies to pre-96 Civics, He has a 1997, D16Y8's and D16Y7's (Non Vtec) Use the same exact valve cover.

Read some of your older topics:

HIS CAR IS A AUTOMATIC, D16Y8/Y7 MiniMe, Running a P2P ECU (This is important information that you should have included)

your IACV is attached/part of your throttle body, it doesn't matter if you buy one for Vtec, or non-Vtec (Although if there is a difference, you'd want one for the Vtec head as your Y7 block is nearly identical to a Y8, and has no effect on the IACV system on the car), whats important is that you buy one for an automatic, because the manual IACV is mounted in a different place.
