Default B series swap or turbo kit...

Someone locally is selling a D-series turbo kit for a great price. I had a chance to check it out yesterday and found: 57 trim turbo (no shaft play) about 1k on it, FMU (ehhh), 255 pump, 3 core front mount, with custom i/c pipe (great fit, greddy bov welded), injectors, tial ewg, etc...

I have only 42k miles on my d-series, and passed a compression test with flying colors, so the motor is real healthy.

I've been seriously thinking of doing a B18c swap since I can get EVERYTHING needed for the swap for 2800.

Ultimately, the turbo kit will provide a bit more power. Obviously, the powerband will be more consistant with the B18 swap, just wanted to know what you guys think....

Thanks!

I had a GSR with bolt ons in my hatch. It was quick, but not as quick as I thought it would be. Headers, Intake, Cat back, p72, MSD full ignition, Cam gears and so on..

I just got my first boosted car, and it happens to be a single. LOVE IT!

Will I choose the Single over the GSR? YES!!

The good about singles is that parts (OEM/Aftermarket) are so cheap, and pretty much in everyones garage. Easy power, and so on.....
The bad about it, is that you won't be making as much power IF you did go any further with that B series.

I guess what I'm saying, is that it really depends on your budget and what your goals are. If you want to shoot for 400whp+, I would highly suggest the B series. If you want a 250whp daily, shoot for the single.

But this is just my 2 cents

A big advantage the B series has over the D series turbo is once the B-series is in the car, later down the road you have more options if you want more power. With the D series, once its turbo that it unless you decide to build the motor in which case you will be spending the same amount as the non built B series turbo. From expierence, I would recommend just swapping in a B series now. But thats just me.

Yeah, it's not that I'm on a budget, but I'm looking for a well balanced car. Something I can track (not in a strait line). So I'm really looking for 210-220 fwhp, which I know is safe on a d-series motor if tuned properly.

I definitely agree that the B-series is a highly greater platform for acheiving high hp.

Just wanted to see what you all thought, and if anyone (like you David, has had first hand expirience with one or the other, OR both!

Its been a while since I've been back to this site, but a couple years ago when I had a turbo D series, there was a great thread on here covering pretty much everything involved in a D series turbo. I searched and didnt see it but I know its still on here somewhere.
