Tires for track events
Need help from anyone doing track events. What kind of tires are you running and what pressure? What kind of life can you expect out of them. Someone at the track said Hoosiers is the only way to go. They are light and have an unbelievably stiff side wall. The only prob is they are about $150ea.

If you're starting out, just use street tires. They "talk" more, are much cheaper, and quite frankly are all you need.

who still LOVES the p700z $51 price tag

cliff notes: use good street tires until you have the exp and skills to use r compounds..
Exactly what the other two said. If you dont have much experience, use street tires. I'd recommed Azenis as they are pretty cheap and peformed quite well. I used them for tow days of lapping at MidOhio and they held up great. They provide losts of feedback audible and sensory so you know when you are at the limit or over.

If and when you do have a lot of track experience, there are several different track tires on the market. All stick very well on dry pavement. The Hoosier R3S03 will stick slightly better in the dry, but not as well as the others in the wet, and they wear extremely fast. The Yokohama A032R sticks very well but not quite as well as the Hoosier on dry pavement, but does much better in the wet, and lasts a lot longer. The two Kumhos (the V700 Victoracer and the Ecsta V700) fall in between these extremes.
I wonder how the soft compound A032R compares to the Hoosiers since only the hard compound is available in North America

Thanks for the input and opinions. I have done quite a few events, and am a solo/instructor with BMW-Porsche S.Florida/NASA. We race Sebring, Moroso, Homestead and I did Road Atlanta a couple of mos. ago. I used the stock tires with reco. pressure, and then got Pirelli 700z which is what's on there now. I don't think they are sticking as well as the stock or if it's because the track temps are higher or if my pressure is incorrect. I started the day with 35/33(cold), then went up to 38/36 and then lower again. I felt looser in the turns with a lot of squeeling then I thought I did previously. I did a time trial at Moroso and my best was a 1,56 (compared to the racers who do a 1,39 to 1,53)so all in all not too bad but I thought I was scrubbing off a lot of speed in the turns. Everyone I talk to there says that race compounds are like night and day. I heard good things about the Yoko A32's, but I want to get some more events on the P700's, so what is your thought on tire pressure?

I like the Yokohama A032R a lot, using 205/50-15 on my ITR, and have found that they work just fine using Honda's recommended 35F/33R, measured cold, as previously reported here.
I also previously reported on the life of these tires here. For track tires, I think they last a long time.

i used the A032R's at moroso and homestead a couple of times and i loved them *alot*, i dont remember what pressures i was running though but you should give them a try (they dont last long). Anyways i live in boca too...what do you drive?
(they dont last long)
The a032r lasts longer than any other comp tire I've seen personally.
) and I ended up giving away my A032R's to Kenji with 40% or so life left on two and 20% life left on the other 2..
