Default Cleaning headlight plugs?...

When replacing my head light bulb on my 00 civic. I noticed a lot of gunk build up on the headlight plug itself. And once I put on the replacement bulbs. The driver side headlight wont turn on. The passenger side works fine, the gunk is like brown almost like peanut butter consistency.

Anything I can do to clean it, cause I think it's preventing electrical connection to the bulb. But it will turn on when I use the high beam. I made sure the replacement bulb was fine because I switched it to the passenger side and both work. Any ideas?

It's inside the plugs, not on the outside.

I would use something like NoFlash. It is an electro contact cleaner. Something to that nature.

I just got some eletrical cleaner, still didn't help. The low beam still doesnt turn on, and bulbs are brand new.

Sometimes with all that build up, once the old light is taken out, you break what's referred to as the "super-secret mechano-electro-chemical bond," and the plug will never work again. Seriously, what I'd do (unless it's a fuse) is probably just pull one from the junk yard and splice it in.

I think thats what happened, cause even the new bulbs I got don't work. Damn!

How bad is it to run off high beams? The bulbs could eventually burn out right?

I checked the low beam fuses under the dash. And wow they both were blown. I replaced them and now its working again!

Well I'd still like to know cuz mine does the same thing and I gotta get out and tap the headlight everyday for it to turn on. Its all brown as well. I check the wires and none seemed to be loose and fuses are ok

This brown buildup is probably a mixture of dust and degraded dielectric grease.

Use some CRC QD Electronic Cleaner and a shop rag to clean the plugs.

I already did that too, looks a lot better. But the low beams work now since, I replaced the fuses cause they blew.
