will oversized rings work?
alright... so i just bought a h22 block complete with everything except one piston and one ring.
i got it all for $60. so i was all excited until the machine shop tells me that one cylinder is scored and the block needs to be bored.
it possibly only needs to be bored .10 over from what they said by looking at it.
after talking about it with a friend of mine who has rebuilt multiple ka24's for multiple 240's he has owned he says that oversized rings will work with no problem and i can use the stock bore pistons.
i want some more opinions on this.
any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance

but its not stock bore when its been bored over....
if the cylinder walls got ate up, bore it .25 over and run stock oversized pistons and oversized rings, that is IF the cylinder walls are not bad.

do you know pricing on the stock oversized pistons?? if the cylinders arent that bad and only need a very slight bore would it be possible to use the stock pistons i already have with new oversized rings?

You can't overbore at all and still use the stock pistons. Judging by the questions you're asking, I don't foresee this rebuild being successful. Also keep in mind honing after the overbore requires a special process.

i have a chilton....
i have never done internal work to a block before. i have done pretty much everything else. my friend who rebuilt his ka24 used oversized rings from what he said. that didnt sound right to me so i figured i would ask.
all of the work to the block is being done by a machine shop. i have rebuilt a motor to stock specs before. i have never had to deal with or really looked into boring out a block.
thanks for your help though guy

make sure your machine shop realizes the block has frm sleeves...in other words, gc-600-j stone, 28-43 psi pressure, 45-50 rpm, no more than 20 cycles (less than 0.0008"), oil lube, 60 degree crosshatch. don't be suprised if they aren't equipped to/won't hone your block. damage liners might be a viable option for you.
