WTK:GSR gearbox
i hav a JDM gsr gearbox, i think it's a S80 wit lsd, n when i'm racin when i launch in first @ 8200rpms, it falls to like 5800rpms, i hav in a ACT racing clutch n streetlite flywheel 10.5lb, n i to play ketch-up....
wats causin dat is it to ratios or something else?

When you are not moving, VTEC will not engage, so don't expect full power. Your axles hate you. I don't see how you are getting traction anyway with a launch that high.

?!!!!!!!!!!! Where do you buy your weed?!!
Anyway, if you're shifting from 8200 in 1st , the RPM will fall to around 5500 or so in 2nd unless you're shifting hard enough to spin the tires in 2nd.
GSR gear ratios suck ***. Buy a B16 or ITR trans. You'll be much happier.

I <3 my ITR transmission.
Some people say it's too short for drag racing, but with my modest 250WHP setup I'm at about 7K, 4th gear, at the end of the 1/4 mile. Any power will probably require me to get larger wheels or switch back to the GSR tranny.

LOL I thought he was mad at the GSR tranny and wanted to kill it :D
I guess the reasoning behind the swtich back to GSR would be to keep from shifting to 5th during a 1/4 mile run... anything over 115mph and you're gonna have to shift to 5th. Of course, an LSD install would be required for it to make sense.
As far as bogging the 2nd gear shift, the ITR tranny will put you roughly 200RPM higher than the GSR at the same 8200 shift, landing you at 5200 or so, instead of 5000. These numbers are not exact, just estimates.
Edit: Here is a good resource for the OP: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/

The ITR trans will put you at around 6k or so in 2nd. Otherwise, it would fall out of VTEC.

vtec is 4400... You mean IAB's? They give more kick than the smooth VTEC engagement.
Edit: Nevermind, I'm sure you meant B18C5 vtec, since that is what the tranny was designed for.

Here are some calculations I did:
B18C5 rev limit, VTEC 5700:
JDM98-01 ITR top speed in 1st: 38.37mph @8500 RPM
JDM98-01 ITR RPM in 2nd @ 38.37mph: 5540 RPM
USDM ITR top speed in 1st: 41.72 @8500 RPM
USDM ITR RPM in 2nd @ 41.73: 5540 RPM
GSR top speed in 1st: 41.72 @8500 RPM
GSR RPM in 2nd @ 41.72: 5000 RPM
B18C1 rev limit, VTEC 4400, IAB at 5750:
JDM98-01 ITR top speed in 1st: 37.01 @8200 RPM
JDM98-01 ITR RPM in 2nd @ 37.01mph: 5345 RPM
USDM ITR top speed in 1st: 40.25 @8200 RPM
USDM ITR RPM in 2nd @ 40.25: 5345 RPM
GSR top speed in 1st: 40.25mph @8200 RPM
GSR RPM in 2nd @ 40.26mph: 4825
Hopefully these will help the OP.

Why would the GSR and ITR have different first gear speeds? For the USDM versions, both have identical ratios and final drives.

You should technically dip to ~5400 with a strong clutch and no slipping. If you're only dipping to 5800, then your clutch is slipping a bit.
Either way, there is not much you can do about your shift points without switching or fully building a custom tranny.
http://www.gearspeed.com can do it.
