Default Trans Fluid?

Hello.

I have a 96 Accord EX (not VTEC) and Im going to change the tranny fluid.
Now im my manual it says to use honda's stuff and does not tell what viscosity to use. Would it be alright for me to use Synthetic 75w90 Gear Oil?

Thanks.

Sorry but this is off topic. How is your Accord EX if it doesn't have VTEC? From what I know, All the EX have VTEC....

Off topic? What do you mean. Not all EX models are VTECs. There is 2 types of motors put into these models. There is the F22-B1 witch is the VTEC and the F22-B2 which is what I have. So does anyone know if I can use that gear oil in my tranny?

Honda MTF

Don't use Synthetic, don't use random stuff.

Just use Honda MTF it's not expensive at all

Do not put 90 weight in your tranny. It is far to thick.

I can never remember if it's 10w30 or 5w30 but you can use regular motor oil in place of Honda MTF.

90 weight/GL-5/or any standard gear lube will not work.

I have fund out that gear lube will WORK, but the shift action is so clunky you will change it right away... (Used 75w-90 mobil 1 gear lube)

The reason it doesnt work is it is the equivalent of putting a 20w-50 motor oil in there, just with tons of anti-shear additives for things like rear differentials. And 20w-50 is way too thick for a tranny designed with clearances suitable for a 10w30 oil. But Honda MTF is better than regular motor oil...
