DO NOT USE THAT OIL. your honda uses 5w30 SL grade engine oil. I only use HONDA MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID. But in a pickle, you can use any quality 5w30 engine oil. Mobil standard 5w30 is fine, buy it from Walmart for 1.82 a quart. You will need about 3 quarts to fill the transmission.

Your saying I can use MOTOR oil? So I can use the same oil I use in my motor in my trans? Which is Vavoline 10w-30 non synthetic

I believe it's 1.8qts unless he's rebuilding the tranny, then it's somewhat more. Use either Honda MTF or GM Syncromesh FM.

Well, Last time I used Penzoil, I think it may have F%^ked up my trans, It was also told that it was great for my ford, even though it says for GM and Chrystler use.
BTW, at VERY high rpms, I grind 3rd gear

the honda manual transmission fluid is an engine oil with an additive from what my friend at honda america told me. it is under 4 bux a quart at the dealer. if you are going to use something other than the original manual transmission fluid, buy the regular mobil. it is the closest to the honda factory fill, honda oil is made by mobil. if it was meant to be synthetic, the factory would have filled it with synthetic.

Either honda MTF, Synchromesh, or 5w30. i will only use Honda or synchromesh in my honda. the 5w30 is only for a "temporary" thing though. the MTF have extra anti-wear additives to protect your tranny.

Re: (fistandauntilus)
I just put AMSOIL in mine. I noticed a big difference. Seemed like the gears went in smoother and the whole car accelerated faster. It's a Synchromesh as well.
Could just be me getting loopy on fumes from exhaust.. but I swear it was better than the stock MTF.

Re: (zx2gotboost)
Well, new axles are in, Honda fluiod in with a tiny bit of Lucas oil additive, got in my car started it up, pushed clutch in and moved shufter first to second to 3rd gears, WOW, what a difference NEW tranny oil makes, shifts better than it did! and thats at Idle.
But another problem..........................
When I pulled the lower control arm balljoint, the cotter pin was broke off in the castle nut (17mm) I loosened the castle nut anyway, now I CANNOT put the castel nut back on all the way!!! thankfully I got it on 2 or 3 threads, but thats all!
So im screwed once again.................
and I know nothing about that balljoint, I wonder if I can just replace the ball joint thing?
