Default Rear Shock Bolts

pulled from diagram:

Part No. 90181-S84-A00 // which is #17 on diagram

question is...is this the infamous rear bolt that is seized and almost all of us who do our own suspension come into a problem with??

I'm sick of it, and I've already done a thread on it but unsure of the part No. and just wanted to make sure it's the right bolt to service. I'm taking it into the nearest honda dealership to get that replaced if it is the right bolt.
*EDIT: Do I need to replace anything else besides the bolt? (even if torching, will I break anything else??)

1 more thing, the dood of parts at the dealership told me it's a 12x68 mm bolt grade 8 ( i dont know jack about grades and what not...) so this is what im lookin for, but some local hardware stores here say they have grade 5 only and what not? so ..... what's grade for? does it make a differencE?

1. Yes, that's the bolt in question (number 17).
2. No, you don't need to replace anything else (unless you somehow stripped the nut on the control arm, then you'll need to replace a lot more)
3. Bolt grades: http://www.boltdepot.com/faste....aspx
Grade 5 is nowhere near as strong as Grade 8, so it's imperative that you use Grade 8, as specified by the manufacturer.

PS. I don't see why you're having problems. Is it that the bolt won't come out of the bushing? Have you tried pushing it through from the nut-side of the bushing, using a hammer and a screwdriver?

cool info matt, you know it all! ^_^
Nope, the nut is fine not stripped at all. I'm confused on what you mean by pushing it through the nut-side of the bushing?? Wouldn't I bend my screwdriver by hammering too hard or do I not need to hammer that hard? lol. *Also this won't risk the threading be messed up?*

so I'm picturing.....

------>> NUT on CONTROL ARM --------->> BUSHING ----------->> HEAD of bolt.

Push that way??

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. You won't bend anything, if you're just hitting the un-threaded bolt through. If you want, I can get pictures of what I'm talking about.

yes please!! Pictures would help! I took it to a shop here in Whitewater, WI and the mexicanos wanted to take the ENTIRE ASSEMBLY out and "drop them" to remove that bolt...im like.....that bolt is one of the three that hold it up....removing the top two doesn't make a difference if you can or cannot remove the bottom one that's seized.... SOOOOO......i'm like screw you guys I'm not coming back here anymore.
*Btw, when i got back after 40 minutes of waiting(which should have taken only 20-30 minutes to torch / remove, the bastids had my trunk open....and my new shocks on the floor..... =X never going back there again.....at least not with junk in my trunk ha*

so lesson learned, I'll take advice i get on here and do it myself ^_^ you guys make it seem so easy heh

sweet thanks a bunch man.... *btw I read from a thread you're in the wisconsin area too? which part?? I might have seen your car on the highway..*

Also, I could only get my hands on two 12x70 mm bolts grade 8 not the 12x68mm ones that Honda states, is that gonna be an issue?

nice, well that's not too far from me, nor where I go to work in milwaukee. Whitewater is probably about a good 30-35 minute drive. Not too far from Milwaukee too then . If I need some help, mind if we meet up some time? ^_^

Thanks for the pic, I'll wait till it gets warmer and try doing that.
*Looks like your car is just as dirty as mine ha*

I had a bitch of a time with that bolt. I had a friend cut that bitch out and I had to buy a new one from the dealer.

I could probably meet up some time, but it'd probably be best on the weekends. I also work 3rd shift, so it's not easy to do certain times of the day.

Yeah the car's really dirty, but it's on jack stands, so I'm not washing it any time soon. It'll have to wait until I'm finished with what I need to get done for Import Alliance.
