Default Head gasket question on thickness/brand for my set up.

Ok I have a 98 integra gs with a turbo set up and when I boost (8psi) the pressure must blow through my headgasket and into the cooling passages because it eventually blows coolant out of my overflow. Anyways this is my set up right now. Its the stock engine, its got the walbro 255 fuel pump, 550 injectors B&M fuel pressure riser, AEM ECU, AEM uego controller, Garrett T3 stage 46 trim compressor, Stage 2 turbine, .63 A/R housing, 38 MM tial wastegate .5 bar silver top, Greedy Vblow off valve, prease front mount intercooler, 3" turbo back exhaust, .040 cometic head gasket and apr studs, and its dyno tuned for 8psi. It does have some blow by through the rings so I am going to just rebuild the whole motor since I will be in there. I was going to use all OEM bearings and rings and all other gaskets except for the headgasket. Now Should I get another .040 head gasket? I don't want to re tune the car so if I put a thicker or thinner one on that would probably have to be done. I am also not going to boost more than 8psi since I want to keep it somewhat reliable. And lastly, do I get another cometic one or buddy club makes one or any other suggestions. By the way I am a certified honda tech so I am partial to OEM stuff but as far as the headgasket goes I would like some input from people in the know. Thanks

OEM headgasket with copper spray, and ARP headstuds.

If I put on the stock headgasket it will not be .040 thickness then.. Will that screw up my setup? Will I have to re tune the ecu or will that not change much since the thickness now is only .040?

OEM Honda gasket as well. Check to make sure both the deck and head are flat before you reinstall it.

It shouldn't take a competent tuner very long at all to adjust and clean up your tune once you've changed the headgasket.

im having the same problem right now with my car.. im also using the cometic headgasket w/copperspray and arp headstuds. boosting 15lbs. only rises up after a couple of hard boost pulls. it fills up almost to the top but not to the point where it guzzles out of the reservoir. after seeing this thread, im thinking it might just be the cometic headgasket. Are they really that bad..?? i got it from golden eagle as a whole LS/VTEC conversion kit. If cometic headgaskets are having problems like this, then why is golden eagle selling it with their kits? especially when i was ordering the ls/vtec conversion kit, it stated that the kit will come with a modified OEM headgasket, but when i recieved it, the package was cometic. to the op, when you find a solution to this problem, please post because im hurtin just like you. thanks

^^^That's interesting, I don't know why GE would give you another gasket when they have their own. You could order just the gasket from them and then get what you want.

Here is some reading material that might help you solve your problem: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2083018 Since I was once in the Cometic boat with you guys (for like 2 years of overheating), I understand all too well how frustrating it is.

thanks dunc. GE gave me a cometic when its suppose to be a modified OEM. but i dont know, Im gonna change my thermo first.. see what'll happen after that..since the thermo i have in there isnt a new one since the build. should i email GE and ask them why they sent me a cometic instead of an OEM one?

Couldn't hurt. If you were to order the GE gasket for your application, it would be pretty difficult for them to pass off a Cometic to you when that's not what you bought haha (i.e. free return)....just buy it with a credit card so you have the ability to dispute it.
