Default Stock all-motor performance

Moving on from a VW and looking at getting myself an EK with a swap. I'm researching engines...stuck between an H22 (type S), B18C5, K20 or B16B...

Any suggestions? Places to start etc.

thanks for the help,

Well not really...but I'd like to keep it reasonable, and I'd prefer to have an all-motor setup. A friend's been telling me that going all-motor is the more expensive route and that I should look at a turbo...

IMO k20 alone ain't worth the money your spending. you might as well go all out and do a k24/k20 frankenstein.

But out of those 4 minus the b16b any of them will be a huge upgrade from the vw

all motor isnt really more expensive. its just significantly less HP for about the same amount of money. neither is more complicated when you really get into it.

however, an EK chassis with a simple 1.8L vtec swap is quite potent with an investment in good bolt-ons, without having to open up the motor.

the "best" swap has many meanings.

if you mean cheaper, simpler and fun to drive, go with a b-series.. if you mean all out horsepower ***** and braggin rights, and perhaps double the price.. sure.. go for the k20. while the installation is somewhat more labor intensive, its rewards are great power and drivability. A stock k20 swap ($5k) will make about as much power as a B-series motor with $2-3k invested into it.

but after 200 hp to the wheel.. are you still counting the ponies? now if you decide turbo.. you can take this all out of the equation, because you can easily get at least 250-300 whp on a b16 and not even open up the motor

Well I'm looking for something with some pep that I can have fun with, and be able to drive all-year round. Turbo isn't out of the option, I'd just prefer to go all-motor if I could.

In terms of upgrades (I atleast intend) to only do say; an intake, exhaust and a few small upgrades. Whatever gets me a mid 13 second car.

I guess in essence, I'm looking for the simplest thing that will get me there.

So...I guess K20?

For what youre descibing, i think a B18C/B18C5 with some nice supporting mods (int, int mani, cams, header) would be right up your alley and would get you pretty close to your ET goal.

Man, im in a good mood tonight.

I dont know, i just am. Im taking the time to type out well thought out answers to peoples questions instead of grilling them about their grammatical errors or inability to think for themselves or do a little research. But the night is still young, and i may turn jaded still....

OP,
This forum is not used for us to tell you what motor to pick. Do some research on quarter mile times, swaps and engine mods. There is a PLETHORA of information in this section and if you can't find the information that you need to determine what motor you have then you got no business modifying cars.

peace.
