Default b18c1 head on b16a block???

alright im doing a b16 build and i need a head, i have a b16a block with p30 pistons and stock b16a rods. im having a hard time finding a b16 head, so i figured i would look for a b18/gsr head and i have found a couple but the only thing i know about the head is that the castings are different and they have a different IM bolt pattern but is there any downside to using a b18 head on a b16 block????

if you go with a b18c head then u will have yourself and Poormans type r...you will need a diff. IM bcuzz ur a b16 will not bolt up..either a skunk2, type r, or gsr IM

you won't be able to call it a "poor mans type r"

very disadvantageous

lol. You could call it a rich man's B16A maybe? Put some dollar dollar bills on the valve cover.

Anyway...the GSR head will add a tiny bit of compression. With the P30 pistons (10.4:1 with a B16A head) I would assume you'd be around the 10.7:1 range with the GSR head.

There have been arguments stating that the GSR has less flow than the B16A head. But I think people have seen the issue to be a wash. I have never had one on a flow bench or seen actual data...so I couldn't tell you.

You'll have to either use the stupid GSR manifold or buy a SKUNK2 manifold for the GSR head.

Besides that....there's really no disadvantages.

do you know the reason why the compression ratio would be raised, as long as its under 11 i dont mind, just wondering if there would be clearance issues and what not if i put an aftermaket cam.

Been there and done this.

You will have no probles with clearance, Everything will be fine. Only thing you have to worry about is the gsr IM. Get rid of it and get you self a skunk 2.

The reason for the higher compression is because the GSR has smaller Intake chambers then the b16. This rasies the compression by almost half a point.

You would use a GSR belt, Other then this everything else is the same.

dummy... Use a b16 belt, the b18 will be too long.. the casting of the heads are the same height, it's the blocks.
