I own a 89 CRX Si. I bought it from a impound lot and ran into the guy that used to own it. He said he put a vtec head on it and all it needed was the controller and it would have vtec. I went to a wrecking yard and found a civic with the same engine as mine (D15b2) and the top end of the engine was way different. Different valve cover, and the spark plugs were on the other side.

SO to my question, how do I tell if it really is vtec and what kind of controller do I need? I would ask the dude but I lost his number. I'm kinda assuming hes not lying (why would he?)

Chances are if the leads are on the front of the block then you have a vtec engine.

I know this is not ALWAYS the case, but its an easy way to distinguish differences quickly.

Or say VTEC on the valve cover?
