Turn signal/headlight control stalk problem

Yesterday while leaving work, I turned on my headlights. It was very stiff, and when the headlights turned on, the parking/tail/dash lights turned off. But when I clicked back to the parking lights, the parking/tail/dash lights came on as usual. The rotating motion of the headlight switch was very stiff, and I had to turn on and off the headlights repeatedly until the parking/tail/dash lights came on with the headlights.
When I got home, I turned off the headlights, and the rotating action of the headlight switch was back to normal. The switch didn't have that stiff feeling anymore. I turned on and off the headlights, and everything was fine. Before I went to bed, I went out to move my car into the garage, and the switch was stiff again and the parking/tail/dash lights didn't light up when the headlights were on.
Anyone experience something like this? This is the first time it's happened. It's a 94 coupe...
