3-4 syncro problem
thats how its supposed to be. syncro just sits right on the gear.
the problem to me looks to be on the dog teeth of the gear itself, the syncro looks fine. i would bet the sleeve (part that slides between the gears to select one or the other) probably has some damage as well. just my .02 based on the pics.
you should see my 4th gear which i had to replace. the dog teeth were shot, syncro wasnt too bad (worse than yours in that pic). decided to replace just the gear and i havent had much of a problem since.

From the trannys I've worked on, clutch case ISB goes first, then housing side ISB. Anytime I split a trans I replace the clutch ISB and inspect all the other bearings.

Same thing happened to me in October. ISB went, caused 3rd and 4th to eat themselves, along with the slider ring. Although my tranny was beginning to pop out of gear when I realized something wasn't right. I would also recommend inspecting the faces of 3rd gear for any grooves or wear, if you had a bearing failure, many weird things may have happened.
BTW I replaced the 3/4/5 synchro rings with the GearSpeed carbon units, along with replacement slider collar and 3rd and 4th gears, thanks to some generous H-T users for providing decent (certainly better than mine) used parts. Tranny rebuilds seriously start adding up in cost
