Default Belt tensioner

Is it necessary to replace the whole tensioner when doing a timing belt change? I was wondering if the tensioner itself wears out over time or if it is just the spring.

don't think they cost that much.. i'm sure the tensioner will run on some sort of bearing so it's worth replacing while you're doing the belt anyway... unless of course it hasn't done that many miles.

From what I have seen, the tensioner for my dd sedan dx is about $45.

That price is for an OEM tensioner.
