trans bearing problem
hey guys. im almost susre the bearing in the tranny where the drive axle fits in, went out. can it be replaced or am i going to have to swap the tranny?
yeah honda can get them in a day or two.. some parts stores can get them too.
here's a tip tho... you might want to pull the trans apart and check for further damage to other things. if that carrier bearing failed, then it's clocked the ring gear out of position and probably ate up the pinion and possibly caused further damage to even more parts of the trans..

found both those links in the FAQ at the top of the forum.
but let me ask this first.. why do you think that bearing went out?? whats it doin?
well my axels are brand new. they probably have 2.5k on them. i dont rag on my **** its an 88 hatch with the dpfi fuel delivery system. i see no point. but when i took the whhel off and everything i turnes it by hand and felt vibes from the tranny case on just the passenger side. if u think it could be something else let me know. i cant drive it so i need to get it running soon
why can't you drive it? does the car not run/move at all? what kinda vibes in the case? you might have just been feeling the gears moving around in there

If you're getting vibrations when driving it could be a number of things. If you can spin the axle and hear a grinding noise coming from the transmission case, it's a bad bearing inside.
All can be changed fairly easily if you have access to a puller and press, or a local machine shop should be able to do them at a reasonable price. Once you have th trans out, all the bearings are super easy to get at.
