Default Snap ring problems

96 Y7 transmission

Installed SRR FD a couple of weeks ago. Broke axle in trans. Pulled apart, pulled diff apart to pull axle out. Put back together. Did not take countershaft apart.

Replaced snap ring as it was bent.

No burrs in case, case is clean. No burrs on bearings. Snap ring spread open over bearing. 4 case bolts tightened down. Prying the bearing won't do it. Dropping the case onto wood won't do it either.

Took apart and pulled out forks and shafts. Put back together. Still won't do it.

Pulled case apart several times and it just won't snap. Ring width away from the groove.

I read your post a few times. I think you are trying to say the case is not going back together. If that is your problem you will just need to play around with it more. DO NOT try to srew down the case hoping it will pop into place. You will just hurt the case doing so. Just make sure the bearing snap ring is 100% open while putting on the case. Just be patient. The cases can be wierd sometimes. On the last 5 tranny's I rebuilt, 3 of them went back on like butter. The other 2 were a bitch getting back on. I have no idea what causes this but its just luck of the draw I guess.

The case goes together fine. THE SNAP RING WILL NOT SNAP INTO THE GROOVE.

Flip it over and it should pop into the snap ring

You never said anywhere in you post that you flipped the tranny over. So maybe you need to write things with a little more detail

Did you think I just picked it up and dropped it?
