HELP Do i blow my engine or just need a new Block???
While driving today, my 2000 civic ex, i heard a loud pop, followed by lots of white smoke coming from under hood, and a loud engine. I pulled over and shut off car. after seeing oil all over everything and dripping under car, i looked around and I then realized all my oil came out of 2 holes the size of quarters i discovered on the engine in front next to the transmission......Does this mean i blew my engine or does this mean i need a new engine block?? Up until now car was working FINE.
wow ok...this sucks...i dont know all that much about cars and didnt know it was same thing or not, Nah i dont beat on the car or drive like an ***, but always took care of it good with the maitnance, it had 121,000 miles, i really didnt except this i assummed hondas lasted longer.
hmm, if you just recently bought it off someone it could've been an existing issue waiting to happen.
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/s...30021 - go there and order a new motor. they are very cheap and H Motors is a very reputable company.
Honda's do last long as long as they are maintained properly. Like i said though, if you bought this car second hand, it is possible that the previous owner beat the hell out of it and then sold it to avoid the problem. But in all honesty, the bottom end of a motor doesn't blow up like that for no reason.
But anyway, buy a new motor, bring it to a good mechanic/shop to have it swapped in and be on your way. It does suck, happened to me back in May 07, but it's not the end of the world. My car is back on the road and it runs great...minus a leaky exhaust. You will miss your car for a day or 2, but when you get it back you will be happier than a fat kid at wendy's.
Good luck dude

It sounds like all you would need is a shortblock. The head and trans Im sure are still fine. U can find a shorblock for cheap and have all the components put onto that block. U don't need a whole new motor. Unless you want some more power. Than go motor swap.

i would be very skeptical that the head is "fine", when the bottom end blows out like that, there is a VERY good chance that head could have bent valves and/or something else gone wrong. and considering how cheap a d series motor is and think in terms of how much labor is at a shop..its cheaper to swap a motor rather than pull the motor, separate the trans, separate the head, then replace the block, put it all back together and then put it back in the car.
cheaper route, swap the whole motor and call it a day.
