Just doin my 5spd swap and i got a short shifter, i noticed there is grease at the bottom of the old oem stick where it connects to the linkage? its black, i went to a local auto parts store and they gave me red wheel bearing grease, just wondering if this is fine? or is there some better stuff i can use, the smoother the shifts the better, altho i know that also depends on the tranny itsself.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Regular multi-purpose/wheel bearing grease is fine for the linkage eye joint.
I use white lithium grease for the pivot ball.

It's not exactly the "correct" terminology (I made it up), but to make things easier to understand, I call the hole where the linkage bolts up the "linkage eye," and the bulbous section in the middle of the shifter the "pivot ball."
