the problem im having started the other day when i toped off my clutch fluid i went to eat somewhere and when i was leaving i started the car up and tried to put it in gear and it didnt let me go into any gear for some reason, then i turned the motor off put and it in gear and it let me go into all the the gears so i turned the motor on again and saw that it wasnt letting me put it in any gear with the motor on, so i thought i was stuck, then i kept messing with it i put it in reverse with the motor off then turned the key to see if the clutch was engaging and it was, it moved the back about a foot or so then i put it back in neutral and turned it on again and it worked i could go into all the gears and everything now and it was fine for a couple days then it started again out of nowhere and i have to keep doin the same thing to get it to work so its still doin this on and off
if anyone has had this problem please help!

i had a problem after a hard race where i couldn't get my car out or into reverse after a couple of days w/o reverse i put some lucas trans fix in the transmission and i haven't had a problem since, you should try that if you have made sure that your clutch is definetly engaging

this is my only car so its gonna be a while before i can take it to the shop to get it checked out

i would try bleeding the system, and check for any possible leaks. If you had to add clutch fluid, you have a leak somewhere. Even the smallest of leaks can seep air into the system.

thanks guys
i hope thats what it is, i took it to the shop cuz it finaly got so bad it wouldnt let me put it in any gear even if the motor is on or off and i had it towed
the mechanic just looked at it real quick and he said his guess was the clutch but im gonna have to wait till they get a good look at it to find the problem

ok well the mechanic said he thinks its the shifter cable assembly cuz the tranny can be shifted from the lever on the housing but not when the cable is attached so im gonna search around for another one and if anyone knows where i can find one or if your selling one please let me know this is my only ride
oh yeah and its not a 5th gen shifter i did the 4th gen shifter conversion
so if anyone knows where i can get a shifter cable for a 4th gen please let me know

how did it get worse just by sitting there?
start with trying to move the shift forks manually with the car off. this eliminates the possibility of the shifter forks or gears bearing screwed. if they move by hand but the shifter cables dont move them, then its you shifter cables!! and if you can move it into gear with the car off, but not on, then your clutch is not fully disengaging and there are a multitude of reasons for that which everyone else has already mentioned.

I just fixed this exact problem, not 2 hours ago. I had all the same symptoms as you. The others are right, your clutch master cylinder is probably leaking. Check inside the car where the clutch pedal meets the firewall. There should be some fluid there. Anyway I changed the master cylinder and all seems well, although I do need to bleed it some more.
