No dont just "PULL" it out . pull up the rubber boot at the bottom of the cable remove the weird clip(dont lose it) then pull it straight up and out.

Correct. I made the mistake by "just pulling it" and I broke the clip

Once the clip is remove you can pull it out it will simply slip out. Remember when reinstalling it that you need to align the little key with the speed sensor or your speedo wont work once you reinstall it.

Sometimes they stick and the cable breaks. Seen it on a friends old SOHC ZC that I bought off him. I swapped the speed sensor with my old one so I don't have much input other then remove the whole sensor and taking the engine out.
There is a bolt holding where the cable goes into. It's the speed sensor. Once you remove the bolts holding it down just pull up on the sensor (tight fit) and it will come out, then set it aside, remove the engine, and get at it with a better angle by sitting inside the engine bay yourself.
Or, spray lots of degreaser and stuff like that, let it sit for a bit, and go at her again.

Thanks for the pics. I don't understand how it's so jammed in there. I've stood on the engine and pulled as hard as I could and it still wouldn't budge. Where are these bolts you're talking about? I only see a hole to the right of the sensor that looks like a bolt was there but thats about it.
The bolt is right there, it holds a piece of metal over where the VSS goes into the transmission. Should have a 10mm head. Easy to see. If you don't see it there, it must be gone, taken off by the last poor unfortunate soul to try to remove your VSS. Is the engine in the car? I assume it is. If you can get a new one from a junkyard, you can break it just to get it out of there, and access it better with it out.

Is there a trick to this?
