Default Help with B16A2 Crank ... Not original crank?

So I'm doing some work to get my B16A2 back to life, which has been dead for the last 3 months.

Long story short, the crank pulley bolt snapped.

Anyways, I just got around to extracting the broken bolt out of the crank.

I pulled off the lower timing belt cover, and there was a key in there.

As I went to put the engine at TDC, I noticed the timing belt gear was not moving the crank with it. Basically, it appears that the key that was in the lower timing belt cover was supposed to be in the keyway between the crank and the timing belt gear.

Which makes me

According to Helm, and the parts guide, I should have something like this:

My gear should look like part #12 in the above diagram.

However, what I see instead looks like this:

part #15 in the above diagram, which is from a B18C1.

Coincidentally, the B18C1 requires two keys, one for the gear, and one for the pulley.

So what does this mean? Did someone swap my crank out with one from a B18C1? Or is it possible that some B16A2's came like this as well?

I bought this engine second hand 3 years ago, so it wouldn't really suprise me if this was the case. Would that also mean it's possible I've got P72 pistons in there?

Arrrghhh...

no. it's origanl that "extra" gear set is for the crank position...........................which is standard on all obd2 cars.......see number 12 on the first pic?

thats what you have.

the one that's part of the crank assembly shown in the first pic is b16a3 obd1

No, Part #12 in the first pic is what I'm supposed to have.

Part #15 in the second pic is what I actually have.

If you notice, the flanged cog part of if is on the opposite side in the two pics.

Based on the HELM, it looks like I should be able to remove the gear freely, however, on mine the gear is held in by the oil-pump plate (as it is on a GSR).

oh ok i thought you said you had 11 .........

the GSR crank with rods and pistons will not fit into your block.

he will have to use i belive the gsr crank, b16 rods and an aftermerket piston.

he probably used the t belt gear off of another motor (GSR) just to pieace the front together to get it out of there...................

FWIW, I just replaced the timing belt with a B16A2 belt, and everything lines up perfectly. I rotated the whole assembly twice, and everything still lines up.
