Default H2U5 tranny in a 4th gen?

Hi there - I'm new to the site, please be gentle with me!

I have a little project on the go which requires me to seriously look at my gearing. I currently have an M2J4 5-spd manual transmission bolted to an F22a. The engine ousted for an import H23a VTEC (bluetop) and I'm going to run some big boost on it so I'm looking for a tranny with much longer legs.

I have come across an H2U5 which is from an Accord as far as I can tell. I've figured out how to check whether this is US or JDM but haven't got around to that bit yet.

My question(s): does anyone know what the ratios are on this box? Has anyone gone so far as to drop one of these boxes into a lude?

Thanks for your help!

Here are some ratios: https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=2
yours isn't in there, but you should consider the prelude S tranny, you can find them dirt cheap, and if mated to an H22(like mine) it will hit 70mph in second(at 7500rpm), and over 100 in third, that should be long enough for you

Thanks GB,

So you'd have the M2L5 right? Mine is the M2L4 which is the Australian S tranny. But the final drive ratio is the same as the Australian Si and Vtir trannies! I'd love to get my hands on an M2L5 but can't seem to find much over here!

Yes, I have an M2L5, and sorry I didn't realize you were in Australia, but here are a couple more links for you.

Awesome - thanks again! Those links are gold!
I'm not sure how I ended up with the H2U5 at our local Honda wrecker coz I'm sure it's an import but I don't know much about Accords.
It seems to me that the H2A5 mentioned in the top thread will be quite similar to the H2U5. I basically just want the 4.062 final drive but from what you've dragged my eyes across this box will be a good matchup.

Do you really need longer gearing? Roger/Md23vtec uses a pretty stock M2s4 in his 10sec Prelude.

The H2U5 and H2A5 have the same ratios. Though, they're the longest geared trannys for the H/F series (I'm talking 120+mph in third).

1st: 3.307
2nd: 1.809
3rd: 1.185
4th: 0.870
5th: 0.685
Final: 4.062

The cases are the only difference I've found. The H2A5 doesn't have the povisions for the studs to fit Prelude motor mounts but the H2U5 does.

Hmmm stock (ish) M2S4 attached to H23A bluetop (which I assume to be boosted) = 10sec Prelude?
This is along the lines of my thinking! Do you know what psi he is running?

I have access to the M2S4 tranny if I want it, but I compared the ratios and it just seems to me that with that short gearing on the boosted bluetop I'd be spending more time out of gear while changing than I do in gear trying to launch the thing.
Obviously not if Roger is running 10s with a similar setup?

Gogunkerilla, that's exactly what I was after - thanks! Good info too about the mounting. There seems to be more info about for the H2A5 than the H2U5.

92hondalude - that's pretty comprehensive! I'm assuming those are in miles per hour yeah?
