Default Using a 4th gen tranny on a 5th gen engine?

Gettin kinda desperate here, the junkyard still hasn't come through with the M2Y4 tranny for my swap (they gave me an SH tranny on accident because they didn't know there was a big difference), so I'm considering just using the M2F4 tranny. There's barely any differences in the gear ratios, so I'm guessin that you can't even tell the difference between the shorter/longer gears. Are there any downsides in doin this? Will I have to buy different year parts for the tranny and the engine? Just makin sure. Thanks.

I do believe the only diference is going to be the internalls (gears) otherwise it should be exactly the same thing. All parts should be interchangeable. The only real downside is that when (and if) you get your tranny you will want to swap it into your car. (for the lower gear ratio and lower mileage on the tranny) Otherwise go ahead. And good luck.

the 4th gen tranny will bolt right up and has slightly better gear ratios (shorter) more torque

My 5th gen has a 4th gen tranny in it. Previous owner (friend of mine, original owner also) was having an LSD put in the stock 5th tranny (mech bolted a 4th in so my friend could use the car while he sourced a broken part). In the mean time my friend had a falling out with the mech doing the work ... never went back for the LSD or 5th gen tranny.

It seems fine in most gears EXCEPT for 2nd. It is not possible to shift the car from first to second and stay near VTEC. Shifting from redline in first drops the car to about 4500 RPMs. Not a huge deal for daily driving ... sucks for autocross, no other issues though.

edit:
I noticed that you were looking at the M2F4 ... I have no clue which tranny is in my car. I just remember him saying it was a 4th gen. I will try to figure out which one it is sometime this week.

I have a 2001 atts block w/m2a4 tranny and no problems except for the 1-2 shift staying in VTEC.

Yes, I've noticed..but it's all the damn junkyards fault. Bastards sold me a 2000 h22 complete swap with a damn SH tranny because they didn't know there was a difference. They're giving me an even exchange for a base tranny but they're taking a while to get one and they won't give me a cash refund, punks. Please..anybody! Buy my SH tranny!

Why are they so hard to get rid of? Doesn't the SH allow better, more neutral handling? Sorry I'm a newb, maybe I should search, but if anyone wants to tell me that would be great!

SH trannies are hard to get rid of because they are gay.

Haha just playin, it's because the SH tranny can't be used in engine swaps because of the ATTS. Prelude SH owners rarely blow their trannies, at least I haven't seen too many threads about that here, and that's the only way I can get rid of it.

You can use them but you can't use the ATTS. It's just dead weight up front.
