gsr head on a b16 block?

Yes it will fit.
Yes it's been done.
The P72 GS-R head has smaller combustion chambers, thus it will raise the compression of the B16A and in theory make more power and torque than the B16A head does on a B16a block due to the extra compression you get.
The thing is that there are a few differences will make the GS-R head swap more involved than literally taking the B16A head off and bolting the GS-R head right up.
Biggest thing is that you'll need to buy a new intake manifold for the GS-R head. The GS-R manifold will suck on that B16A block, and it will ruin the powerband with the B16A ECU. Buy the likes of Skunk2 or Edelbrock, etc. etc.
Other than that it is pretty straight forward.

My advice would also be get any head you buy pressure checked, have the exhaust valve guides and valvestem seals reaplaced, and have the deck surface milled to inrue flatness all at a machine shop.
