Default dexron

so i know that quite a few people use Sea Foam in their vacuum lines and such, so i brought it up with a mechanic. He said that instead of using seafoam, use DEXRON transmission fluid.

has anyone ever done this?

Negatory...That is new to me. I've heard of adding ATF to your oil before an oil change (which I don't do), but have not heard of adding ATF into vacuum lines.

To me, it seems like the thickness of ATF might cause it to gooop up in the hoses...but I could be wrong.

Do not pour ATF into any vacuum lines.

If you really want to try the ATF method, only add it to your engine oil.

my bad,

i did not mean put dexron into the vacuum line. He said instead of putting seafoam into the vacuum line, put in into the gas on the next fill up.

Please don't even use it. If you are about to do any of the things mentioned above....then you are not ready to do any kind of cleaner cheat.

Please, just don't muck up your car.

Sea Foam use is well-documented on these forums. Do a search in the archives and read the various threads on it for tips.

ATF has cleaners inside the fluid itself. Adding a liter to your oil and running it for 5-10 minutes before the oil change can clean out some gunk on the inside of the crank case. Don't forget to run thru some oil during the oil change to help make sure most of the ATF is gone.

Seafoam, cleans an entire different part of the engine. It cleans the intake manifold and combustion chamber by adding a harsh cleaning chemical to your air/fuel mixture during combustion. It really works in taking off carbon build up and I do it to my car every 6 months to help improove reliability, driveability and fuel efficiency.
