Turbo Choice- HELP! Stock K20Z1!
So.. I drive an 06 RSX-S which as you know is the high compression version of the K20... and me being new to Honda motors.. I have only heard what the motor is capable of and am so far impressed.
Here's the thing: The motor is entirely STOCK and will be for a while. That being said, and keepign in mind the comp.-ratio is already 11:1... What would be a good turbo to run if I wanted to make decent power now, but better power in the future (after a rebuild with lower compression pistions)
I already have a REVHard manifold coming flanged for T3/T4 setup... Please chime in and help me pick a turbo!!!
Also, is my motor capable of more than I think BOOSTED with stock compression ratio? It would seem to me that it'd be hard to make power on boost with such a high comp-ratio to start with???
Thanks!

actually with higher compression it is easier to make power its just harder to tune... (you have to run lower boost) normally a high compression turbo set you dont have to run a lot of boost to make good power... and the throttle response is really nice also... if you were to run a sc61 it would be fine... alot of b series guys use this turbo and love it you have a slightly large motor 2.0 liter and it should spool it nicely.. i have seen 350 whp on this turbo with 10 pounds or less on a k series engine... and the turbo dont max out until around 600 or so... good luck with you build and bring it to a reputable tuner to tune it one that has plenty experience with k series motors... and you will also need Kpro
I was actually looking at the SC61 as 1 of my options... Would the motor take 10psi with pump gas daily? I just worry a lot because of the high comp ratio.
All of my past turbo experience has been with Mitsu 4g63 motors (8.5:1 comp) and those F***ers love boost.
Also, do you think I'd be able to run a 62-1 setup with my stock setup or would I not be able to keep the boost down low enough for the application?
I'm still ignorant as to what my motor can do. Thanks for the response.

the sc61 seems well suited for ur needs, although it maybe a bit much from the get go, but for further power it will be perfect.
if ur really worried about ur comp. numbers there a few in-exspensive things u can do.
Things like a thicker headgasket when u install ur head studs
, or even a simple water/methanol injection kit could be very helpful.
I think the main thing is to be real with urself, if ur really not going to build the engine than get something smaller, maybe a 60trim, but if u really will build than bigger is USUALLY better.

The SC61 has a P trim turbine wheel and is good for over 500whp...why would you get that large of a turbo to just run 10psi (~350whp). There are a lot of other turbos out there that would be better for your goals. A simple T3/T04e 57trim would make over 400whp and spool much faster than an SC61...not to mention, it would cost less.

That would make a good addition to your first post...
Anyway, if you're planning to upgrade anyway, then yes the SC61 might be a good turbo for your goals. Personally i would go with a Borg Warner S258. It will spool like a 57 trim, but make well over 500whp when necessary. Its a great all around turbo that competes with the GT3076r without having to be ballbearing.

dont worry about the PSI aspect of it...that has no role in whether or not it will detonate or not. The fuel is more the determining factor. Be sure you find a good tuner and let he/she decide where the stopping point is
