well from my experience i wud go with a jdm type r ecu, i have gsr with diff intkae manifold and im using the jdm r ecu and works better than p28 if not tuned
If you're running an ITR head on anything but an ITR block, use an OBD1 VTEC ECU (P28 works) and have it chipped and custom dyno tuned. Working "fine" is a lot different from working "well" and "properly."
If your car is OBD1, then you won't need anything special to hook up the ECU. Don't just run an ITR ECU...the engine will run okay, but the maps won't be right for that head on whatever block you have it on (I'm assuming you're not putting it on an ITR block), and you'll be sacrificing a decent amount of power (not to mention you'll probably have a weird powerband).

what block are you using??? and dude a type r ecu does wonders for my gsr with blox intake manifold, better than p28 chipped and gsr, dont speak unless you have had experience with a jdm r ecu, if you use a type r ecu you will be fine dont listn to others mumbo jumbo,im using it now and works great

ooo i see so ya just a p28 i thought you had gsr with itr head cuz if you did a type r ecu wud be better but for lsv, just a p28 chipped

Since your engine harness is for a non-VTEC engine, you'll have to run three wires from the engine bay to your ECU: VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and knock sensor.
If you have or can find an OBD1 GSR ECU, you can have it chipped and dyno tuned, and it will work better than any off the shelf ECU (being that it'll be custom tuned on a dyno).

Calm down buddy, I never said anything about the ITR ECU not working. Of course it will work, and of course it'll feel good. It will NOT, however, be as optimal as taking your car to a shop and having it custom tuned for your specific setup. Maybe the chipped P28 you were running just had a base map on it with no custom dyno time with your car and your specific setup. If it did, then whoever tuned it didn't do a good job.
Bottom line: using an ITR ECU will work, and it'll feel fast, however chipping and tuning an OBD1 ECU will net you more power, and more importantly, a more even and linear power band.

you didnt hear right, i said i thought he had a gsr block so yes a r ecu wud be better if not tuned, i never got mine tuned cuz it runs good and i dont need it tuned as of now,for his setup yes p28 chipped tuned- my setup is better with r ecu dont belive come and see me take out type r's like noting, and of coarse tuning will get more power, but my motor runs so great and i feel more power than ive had beofre, if you have a gsr engine like me with a diff intake manifold a type r ecu will work great without tuning or anything, ive felt a diff in power, and others say you will lose bottom end, i havent noticed any diff in power , ive acutally felt more power
