Default possible bent valve?

ok i have a 96 integra b18 motor so i was dropping off my gf and came to a stop and as it came to a stop my rpms went extremely low then the car shut off.. i cranked it and it turned over but wouldnt start.. i cranked it all together probably for about 2 minutes took it to my mechanic said it was my timing belt.. so after he put in a new timing belt he said that i have one bent valve and when im driving the car runs well but when it comes to a stop and the rpms drop then come back up but sometimes it idles just fine but the car has to sit at the light for a minute until it drops up and down.. i know if the timing belt ripped as i was moving i would have bent a valve but i wasnt moving when the car shut off so could i have bent a valve that easily?

yep. if the belt snaps while the engine is running it can possibly damage a valve. do a compression and leakdown test to be sure.

I would bet bent vavles.

Why would your mechanic change the belt without looking/listening for bent valves?

Sure sounds like a bent valve. Did you over rev or miss a shift just prior to that problem?

No. He's right.

90% of the time when your t-belt snaps or slips teeth, vavles bent.

How many miles are on your t-belt?

You have a 96 with ODBII. Are you storing CELs 71-74 for misfires?

When you where coming to a stop and your RPM's drop and your car died is likely where your belt broke.

Even tho it was low engine speed, thats enough on an interference motor to do significant damage.

bent valves looks like.

all compressions testers read different.
your looking for a relatively close set of numbers, when that far outta wack, motor is toast..

Perform a valve adjustment and redo the compression test. Your numbers should be uniform.

It is not a bent valve, because if u had a bent valve u would read 0 compression in the cylinder...

your compression numbers are good

start by replacing or checking this items: plugs, wires, fuel filter.

You can still have compression with bent or misadjusted valves. It will just be reduced.

its possible..but i had a slight bent valve and had no compression..due to all the air escaping through the valve..but anyways good luck...

and if u had a bent valve your car would not hold idle at all...my .2 cents

They do idle like crap. OBDII will also throw codes 71-74. I asked th OP this earlier.
