Hi everyone.
I recently had a 93 Civic hatchback given to me and I decided to do a swap. I've never messed with Honda's so I'm new at all this and was wondering if I could get some help. I've searched and came up empty handed.

The 93 hatch is OBDI and I'm putting in a Type R. My question is how do I go from OBDI to OBDII? I have both ECU's and both wireing harnesses.

So would using a PT28 chipped for the higher Rev (Type R motor) work on this set up?

he's right

the engine harness should plug into the chassis's harness during the swap, the just get an obd-2 to obd-1 conversion harness and run a chipped ecu.

I can help you from my own personal experiences with my own 1992 hatch with B18C5 swap.

1. Use any 1996-2001 Integra engine harness - if your R is a USDM one then by all means use the ITR engine harness!

Don't listen to anyone who says it won't work, because it works and my 1998 USDM B18C5 is plugged right in using the ITR engine harness:









The reason you use the "OBD 2" 96-01 Integra harness is so that you don't have to change out injectors, alternator, distributor, etc. etc. on the ITR engine.

As far as "converting to OBD1" goes from there it's super easy - buy a rechipped P28 ECU and plug it into your car under the dash - it's that simple! This swap does NOT require a jumper harness or any of that mess.

Depending on what type of hatch you have you may need to wire up the VTEC, possibly wire up the VTEC oil pressure switch (unless it's a JDM engine - there is another wiring trick those require), and if you use the P28 then you won't even need to wire up the knock sensor.

I need to know if the engine is JDM or USDM, and if your hatch is an Si, VX, CX, or DX, and then I can help you out with exact wiring.

just run everything in the engine by obd-2 and plug in the obd-1 ecu. use a 96-01 gsr harness

Well that changes things somewhat. Completely forget about using the JDM harness.

There are two ways to do the engine harness with the JDM swap, and the easiest is:

1. Find yourself a 1996-2001 Acura Integra engine harness

VTEC harness or not shouldn't matter really, because you're going to have to wire up VTEC either way since your 1993 Civic doesn't have the VTEC wiring imbedded in it's chassis harness at the shock towers

From there it's easy wiring - wire up the VTEC, and then tie in the wire for the VTEC solenoid into the VTEc pressure switch at the ECU since the JDM engine has no VTEC pressure switch, but the P28 looks for one.

2. If you want to use your car's engine harness you can, but it adds some pain in the *** measures wiring and parts wise due to completely different plugs on the engine harness and the ITR engine's injectors, distributor, alternator, etc.
either rewire the injectors, distributor, and swap out the voltage regulator from your SOHC alternator into the ITR alternator (to make it plug into the OBD1 Civic harness) or simply buy an OBD1 distributor, use your old Civic injectors or buy new OBD1 B series ones, and then buy an OBD1 alternator.

...and in the end which ever harness you decide to use, you still run a chipped P28 ECU and it makes it all easier.

Sounds confusing? Well it sounds like that at first, but I promise you it's not.

I strongly recommend buying a 96-01 Integra harness, plugging it in, and then doing the simple wiring to wire up the VTEC.

Oh and pin locations for VTEC:



You'll only need to look at two wire locations here - all other stuff is for different engine/ECU combo.

Focus on A4 - this will be where you'll need to run a wire from the VTEC solenoid in the engine bay, to this ECU location. It's not as easy as jamming the wire straight into the ECU - try to find a junkyard car to clip some wires at it's ECU to get some pins, then cut the end of the junk wire and push the wire backwards through the plug, then soldier your new pin to the wire you used for VTEC.

Also you'll want to splice an extra wire into that VTEC wire and pin it into pin D6 to fake the P28 ECU into thinking you've got a VTEC pressure switch on your JDM engine, when you don't. Either that or add any USDM VTEC pressure switch to your engine, then wire it up just as you wired up the VTEC solenoid itself.
