Default ECU problems, please help! :(

Hey guys, im trying to pass my emissions in MD. as of now, i have a OBD1 JDM B16 in a 98 Civic. I HAve a Obd2 A harness to OBD1 i beleive. Now i have a SI ecu (P2t) so this will not work right? I can not plug the Si ecu into the harness. I dont want to keep buying things if i am unsure of what even to buy.

you need to know what engine harness you have,if your going to use you si ecu you need obd2a to obd2b conversion harness because the si ecu is obd2b,now if your harness is obd2b you dont need a conversion harness you just plug the ecu to your engine harness, now im not sure of this someone correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure thats how it goes,my recomendation is get a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness and use a p28 chipped engine ecu since your running an obd1 engine.

yes, but my problem is that the emissions is reading for Obd2 which i dont have. if i got a chipped p28 then thats still a obd1 computer. i have pictures but i dont know how to get them to my email, there on my phone. i have to have the obd2a engine harness because its a 98. right?

you're OBD2A, in 99 it went to OBD2B. I'm not sure, but is there some way to maybe repin the harness to make it OBD2B to mate with the OBD2B ECU

You may have issues passing emissions with an OBD1 motor in a OBD2 car, that's technically illegal, ranging from the fact it's just an older block (doesn't matter what's inside) to lacking emissions equipment. If you have or can bypass the knock sensor and such...the jumper harness or repinning it would do the job.

even if you do get the si ecu IN,your still going to have a check engine light because your engine is obd1.if you still want to put the si ecu you need a obd2a to obd2b ecu harness conversion wich sells for like 130.so youll just plug that to where your ecu goes and plug the other end on the si ecu.now i doubt your going to pass emission even with a obd2b,its going to read some sensors that the obd1 engine does not have and its not going to run right.

so what is it that you're trying to do? you can convert a OBD2 to a OBD1 by buying an ECU pigtail. skunk2 makes 1 but they're expensive. about $180. no matter what you do you can't smog it. with this pigtail you can use OBD1 ECU's like the P28 or P30

you also need to use the SI or EX harness that has the 4 injector plugs. that way it looks clean and all of your connectors will read. once you convert to OBD1 you won't be able to use your 16 pin checker. you'll have to use the short connector

i would just get an obd2a ecu. if you get any CELs (your obd1 engine doesnt have alot of the sensors that ond2 cars have) you will need to fix them before going back to the VEIP station.

this is why i only drive obd1 cars, they dont even put you on the rollers anymore in MD

This is why I live in Delaware where a go-kart could pass inspection.
