carbon fiber hood care
i just got a carbon fiber siR hood. and i was wondering if i can wax it. i was told i can but then i heard it will mess the finish up. so if any one knows what is the right way to take care of a hood please let me know.
yes wax it like once maybe a month...some one will chime in im sure but the search button works to...is it messed up or are you just wanting to shine er up?
Depending on brand (I think both VIS and Seibon) use clear coat for finish. You then should treat it like the rest of your paint.
The cheaper hoods use a gel finish I think. Im not sure how you care for those.

if it is a cheaper brand hood, the best thing you can do is wet sand the whole thing with 600 then give it about 2 coats of clear...then wetsand like a new paint job and buff. this will keep your carbon fiber like new
if it has a clear coat on it like most cf hoods now then you can wax it just like any other part of the car because its no different then the clear on your car.
if its a real cf hood which is dry carbon they you obviously can not.

I have a VIS hood and took very good care of it but after a year in the sun, it started to look like ***. After calling VIS, I found out that you are supposed to reclear the hood when you get it. I don't know why I spent 500 for a VIS which is supposed to be top of the line and I have to treat it like its a cheapo..... beats me but VIS has VERY bad customer service
Will never own another product from them.

Im going to have to remember that as I was planning on buying a VIS or Seibon for x-mas. Looks like that decision is made. Pretty shitty you pay the extra for the nice brand and then they want you to pay more. All that should be done when it arrives.

whats up I have a carbon fiber hood on my si had for over 4 years drove year round one year and put it up since but just as long as you wax it one or twice a week or after every wash you should be good and a buff job will do wonders, I do deatil cars for a living I would recomend that you buff your car at least once a year to take out all the imperfections.but if you do buy somthing cheap u could have troble myu friends baught a brand knew hood from TopSpeed the clear coat faded after a few month I manged to bring it back to a shine for w few months buty they ran it threw acvid rain so they had to have it recleard
