Default Recommendations for a compressor...?

I'am looking to get a compressor for Christmas and have been trying to figure out exactly what size for what I need. The people at Sears were not that successful in helping me out. I'am going to be using it for painting mostly, not whole cars though, mainly just parts and it won't be used constantly all day or anything like that. I'll use it for other car related things but Im worried about the painting part most. Right now Iam looking into a 17Gallon compressor but Im iffy as to if I would be waisting my money. Any one with suggestions from experience or what they use......

Yeah thats awesome, I don't need something THAT big haha, I was just getting an idea, I know "the bigger the better" and everything Im going to be using it for smaller things and just wanted to see what some other people would be using that's a little cheaper.

get a drier if your going to be panting...that is if you want it to last ... it will also prolong tool life!!!

also you have to match your gun with the compressor, or visa versa.... so do you have a paint gun already?? do you have access to 220??? all questions to be asked ...

go to your local automotive paint store and ask them they are going to be the best help........

then..
research

If you plan on having it for a lifetime, go big. The first few times your doing something critical and you lose power/ pressure, you'll regret not getting a big *** comp. It a project in itself, but is so worth it having a nice big *** 220v 2 stage compressor w copper lines and traps, dryer and filter.
