Basically it all started a month ago when i replaced my engine mounts in my 1998 GS.

What happens is when im driving normally, from 1st to 2nd is fine, pops in 2nd gear fine.

As soon as I engage to 3rd, or 4th or 5th, and try to downshift to 2nd gear it won't let me, i have to actually push it in hard, feels like a slight grind also when i go in gear. This only happens in 2nd, not 4th (downshifting from 5th)

It goes in, but only if i push it really hard...at whatever speed im at.

So i came to the conclusion that its either the syncro's, or the shift linkage isn't lined up..

I would appreciate it if i could hear your thoughts and advice on this ******* problem, it's pissing the **** outta me.

When was the transmission fluid last changed?

 

i did it myself last week with honda mtf

it took a little more than 2 (1 litre) bottles.

 

Your synchro may be going since no other gear has a problem. Did the fresh MTF help at all?

i took off the center console today to check out the shift linkage, but just came to the metal floor under, is there any way to get to the shift linkage?

jack up the car and look under the car to access the shift linkage.. exhaust will be in the way also

 

I also am having this same problem in my 1996, in the same gear... Mine seems to go into second a little easier once its had time to warm up, but i am very curious as to the cause.. I have recently changed my fluid with honda mtf, and also noticed no change... i hope its not a syncro

 

Can you speed shift into second gear fine?

 

had a simialr issue check sycronizers(cheapest) if it does not improve linkage, or tranny issue best bet.

 

i've never speed shifted this car...so i wouldn't know, nor will i attempt.

tomorrow im gonna look at the linkage...

sounds like the syncro, if it was the linkage it would do it for 2nd 4th and reverse.
