Default Clutchmasters Flywheel Problem

I was wondering if anyone has expierenced this problem with a CM Flywheel 10lbs.
The ring gear has separated itself from the flywheel?

Had a buddy of mine looking at the flywheel and the ring gear is just spinning and spinning. Therefore, car doesn't start.

Had the CM w/ stage 3 for five years daily driven now.

Just replaced my tranny less than 6 months ago, upon inspection for the clutch and flywheel, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Any feed back is appreciated good, bad, indifferent +/or same.

Ehh....as far as I have ever noticed, the ring gear is part of the whole body of the flywheel. I haven't bothered to REALLY check into that though....

Your friend is probably seeing something wrong. Watch the crank pulley as you try to start it and see what happens. Your starter may not be extending out the whole way to the flywheel at all.

Motor has brand new batter and starter. Both tested and verified.

Crank pulley does not move, therefore, no-start.

The only thing that moves is the ring gear along with the starter w/ grinding metal on metal noise.

How are you so sure the ring gear is actually moving?

The grinding noise, to me, sounds like the starter gear isn't fully engaging the flywheel.

Sure enough that it's visibly seen. We removed the bottom cover for the trans. to get a visual.

Yes at first we thought the grinding sound was the starter not fully engaging. Hence, installed a new starter that was tested and verified.

This may be a rare case. So it may be something difficult to visualize but, what I'm saying is surely accurate.

Well, if the ring gear truely is separated, maybe you could get someone to come weld in a few beads through the dust shield hole to hold it to the rest of the flywheel. Then call up CM and scream at them lol. FWIW those flywheels are really made by Fidanza AFAIK.

That is crazy, never heard of it before.

i have heard of that happening but not on a honda, if it was me i would pull it apart and replace it, specially since last i knew that was a steel ring gear and aluminum flywheel, would not trust a weld on that...

Good point.

I'm still wondering though, does it ride in a groove, or is this thing gonna fly off at speed?

Oh I'm definatly gonna e-mail Clutchmasters and let them know what happened to their product. The car has never seen the track, only street driven. Funny how it happened.

Tack welding maybe out of the question. Don't want the welds to fail, +/or throwing off the balance.

To answer your question. I believe it rides on the groove. First reason is, I had to push start to get to work so, no signs of it flabbing around. Second, when we were diagnosing you can see the ring gear float on the groove as it spins.

Any recommendations for a replacement?
I don't want to go too light. The CM I have now would be the lightest I would go, which is 10lbs.
Don't want to go back to stock, but looking for something more in between.
Shooting for something to amplify mid-range power.

Yeah I think you can pretty much rule out tack welding, values made a good point, getting a strong weld down from aluminum to steel is not gonna happen, and the balance thing is a good point as well.

Which brand FW was this case, if you know by any chance?
