Right - it appeared my starter was bust, but on stripping it out, all looks ok.

HOWEVER, the flywheel can be turned by hand. Sticking ones fingers in the hole, i can turn the flywheel - is this supposed to be like this?

If not, is there an easy fix, or is it gearbox and clutch out?

Right, the starter motor wouldn't start the car yesterday. I could hear it spining, but it sounded like it wasn't engaging into the ring gear on the flywheel. I've taken the starter off, but it looks fine. However, if i stick my finger into the hole, i can turn the ring gear around without moving the flywheel and turning the engine. It also moves slightly back and forth on the flywheel. I assume the ring gear is supposed to be fixed solidly to the flywheel, and this is why it isn't working?

 

From what you just said, you are correct... your ring gear has broken loose.

 

Reckon i can try Honda for a manufacturing fault even though the car has literally just run of out warranty?

but yah, i would still try the dealer, even though it just ran out of warranty they still might be able to work with you

 

Gonna try them tomorrow (Today is a public holiday) - see what they say.

If not, i`ve managed to get use of ramps and a complete flywheel from a broken teg engine. I`ll have to do it myself.

Been to see Honda... They are stripping the gearbox down to take pictures etc, and write a report for Honda UK to decide whether to do it.....

If they say yes, i get it for free.

If they say no, it costs me £360 ($580) - ONLY because i have a second hand flywheel..... A new one costs £320 ($515)!!!!!!!!

 

A new flywheel costs $515!!? For that kind of money you could buy a Comptech or Toda flywheel. By the way, what holiday is it in Europe ? The 5th of May is "Cinco de Mayo" here in California (and everywhere there are Mexicans)-Mexican Independence Day.
If Honda UK does not give the o.k.- call customer relations and complain-many times you can get it warranteed, even if the claim was originally rejected. That's the way it works here in the states, anyway.

 

Manguish...I take it you were the guy on saturday who we had to bump off at the Shell station.....I was the guy in the JDM Teg that pointed u in the direction of local Honda Dealer, shame about the problem, hope Honda sort it out, I am sure they will.

Did you go out at elvington? A red teg spun in front of me in the intermediate group, trying to figure out who it was!

One of my mates spun the car at the top 180degree bend before the straight. Wasn`t me Although i did have some MAJOR rear end action on the same corner - FULL opposite lock to correct - GREAT FUN!

Hopefully Honda will have the note from my local dealership and will let me know tomorrow....
