so i bought a harbor freight FCAW for $88 (after turkeyday sale)
can't beat the price they were brand new and i got mine at 7:30 they sold out at 8
its a little wire feed 90 amp.......... says "easy MIG 100" on it, plugs into any 120v (only reason i bought it, my other welder needed a 230 and i havent isntalled it yet)
came with an extra .035 tip and a spool of wire
only thing is the lack of adjustment...............literally the heat can only change from high or low.......and the wire feed is.......
but **** it was $88 bucks with $15 worth of free wire and like a 3 dollar tip
ill post up some welds tommorrow...... i keep getting them bunched up/ balled and i JUST started getting a bead going.......(self teaching wire for the first time)

I don't think it's a matter of being worth $88 ... look at it this way ... that $88 could have gone towards a good welder. Yes, you would have had to save a lot more, but it would have been money better spent. You can't value it at cost since you get what you pay for.

Your logic is flawed. If you learn to weld on a crappy machine, you will become a crappy welder when you get a good machine in your hands. In essence, you will end up having to relearn the proper way and will still have to buy the nice welder to find out. So, in the end, you have wasted $88 AND more importantly, your time & effort.
And how exactly do you plan on breaking a welder?

My first welder was an eBay special. Welds looked like a dog chewed them together. I thought I was doing everything wrong until I got a good MIG and learned that it wasn't as hard as I thought.
Really, for $88, you are a third of the way to a decent MIG welder that you can actually use shield gas with. The $88 that you wasted could have bought a bottle of gas!

Most of the replies in this thread are just dumb.
Starting with a cheap crappy welder isn't a bad idea at all. I still use my HF flux-core and it's shitty yes, but I have saved myself at least $1000 of welding done by someone else with this $100 welder. Enjoy!

Well I have a 200 dx and would love one of these too for $88 bucks lol who cares what other people say as long as it works for you and gets the job you need it for done then it's well worth it.
