Default i need help building my d17

ok i bought my 2002 civic a few months ago and so far i have an aem short ram intake, dcsports 4-1 header, tru-power pulleys, aem cam gear, crower stage 2 cam with upgraded valve springs and retainers and a port & polish, and a vafcII

the last thing i did was the cam and since then my car is actully slower than it was before i put in the cam, i still need to tune it though

would gettin a new intake manifold and bigger injectors be a good idea? how about a intake manifold from a d16y8?

please help me. i hate puttin all this money in my car and not seein any results

this is a good example of someone trying to NA with a D17, spending a lot of money, and not getting results. you should have researched before getting into this, you need to boost that motor in order to get noticeable results...

There's been no recorded situation of a D17 producing even slightly respectable power, naturally aspirated. The only way you'll see power numbers, is with nitrous or a decent turbo setup.

Actually that's not quite true. The guy who tested the Kpro for Hondata on a bolt on D17 made something in the 140's on Church's dyno in southern california. But most of that gains was in Kpro tuning, and probably very little having to do with the parts on the car.

True, but I wouldn't consider those gains to be all that "respectable", given the success of D16 builds.

Best way to build a D17:

Set fire to D17. Buy a better base to start off with. Just out of curiosity, how much have you spent thus far?

DJ Mota had like 130-140whp on a not too crazy setup if I remember correctly.

D17 sucks.. D17 VTEC (+ 10whp) sucks.. the only thing is to boost or swap a K in that bitch.. but since your ported and polished id say go for the turbo..10 psi

i have put about 1500$ into my d17 so far, which sucks bc its not much faster than the stock car i started with i think im just gonna swap for a k series when i get the cash,

wat do u recommend tuning with Kpro or hondata? or the aem full standalone?

Management options come down to personal opinions. AEM has a lot of features and options and is really easy to use, so that would be my preference.

Can't go wrong with any of them though.

i heard the reason that d17s are unresponsive to bolt-ons is cuz the ecu runs on 2 modes. safe mode (normal operation) and limp mode (we all know what that is lol) but idk if thats correct

Has nothing to do with the plastic intake manifold, it's ECU/fuel limitations.

OP.. you said you werent even tuned yet.. how could you expect any gains at all without a tune after upgrading ur entire valvetrain.. thats just plain stupid. get a tune and come back to ask questions.. at this point you're wasting your time asking a forum.. your answer is common sense.
