Default which way are the pistons supposed to face?

Im putting togheter my gsr all motor but i got confused. I thought that the engravings on the pistons are supposed to face the exhaust/front of motor. But the valve reliefs on them are bigger on the exhaust side (where the valves are smaller) and the smaller cutouts on the intake (where there is more lift and bigger valves).

Here is a pic to show what i mean. Anyone wanna help?

I feel stupid but i rather know now than when the valves bend to ****.

Check the rod bearing tangs, they should be on the exhaust side.

I think you have the pistons reversed.

They are backwards. Check the tang to EX as MAR said, your may have to rotate on the rods. I would also take a small file and clean all the machined edges, that stuff gets in the water and oil.

Thanks guys, i guess its time to go switch them around. I don't know why but when i was putting them on i thought the engraving was supposed to face the front and didn't pay attention to the cutouts.

Thanks.

also just go by the cylinder wall squirter in the rod if using stock.

not that they couldn't be on the rod wrong.
