Just making sure I am not missing any steps on my upcoming coolant change. 2000 Civic Cx d16y7.

1) turn car off, let engine cool
2) pop radiator cap, pull radiator drain plug, drain coolant into container
3) put drain plug back in, fill with distilled water
4) turn motor on, heat on high (no a/c, car, defrost buttons) for 10 minutes
5) turn car off, let motor cool, drain water into container
6) replace drain plug, fill with Prestone or Shellzone 50/50 until full
7) turn car on, put heat on high (no a/c, car button, defrost) for 15 minutes

Am I missing anything? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

 

Turn the heater **** all the way over before draining.

 

is it necessary to turn it on? I took out my heater box. i guess just as long as the radiator fan turns on?

 

You just turn your heat on so that the coolant flows through the heater core to get out any air or old coolant, so if you don't have a heater core, this doesn't apply.

Full flush would also include draining the block, although when I replace radiator this weekend, I probably wont, as the coolant is only a few months old.

 

So I don't turn my engine on, just put the key to aux. setting?
