Default Gears, water pump, timing tdc, crank gear etc.

Well Im doing some work on my motor today, and Im about to do the timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, and I think thats it. The helms says that to do timing the crank gear has to be torqued back on at 220 lbs. okay no problem there, but I dont have the gear with me. Can It still be done with out the gear if I can get it to TDC? I dont see why not.

You don't need to have the crank pulley on. Remember to have the key in, so that the timing gear doesn't move around on the crank, and so that it is properly aligned. When you're making your adjustments, put the bolt on and tighten as much as it will go with a regular wrench. That should let you spin the crank back and forth to get your tension right.

Make sure you don't line the cams up 180 degrees out either

Where do you get 220 ft*lbs at? And why torque the crank pulley bolt if you don't have the crank pulley installed? Or am I misunderstanding?

okay mabey I didnt have the key in far enough, but only the balance shaft belt was spinning when I turned thwe fly wheel, and also when I screwed the bolt in. How many gears are connected by the key?

The helms says the crank pulley bolt is supposed to be torgued on 220 lbs. **** its for the H23a1 motor though. Thats a pain in the ***. Reply to 117

Yea, pm sent.

I think the torque spec for the 4g crank pulley is 220ftlb. I didn't tell him to torque it to that value. If he has the bolt on hand tight without the pulley on, he can rotate the assembly however he needs to, to adjust the tension.

Bump the red circle is where I can start to unscrew the bolts to replace timing belt, balance shaft belt, and a maunel tensionor. I have H23a1 helms, and its no good for h22a. Its at TDC right now.

The other pic is my manual tensionr that I bought, allthough I can seem to see where it goes in replace, unless I have the automatice tensinor on there please help out.

You don't need to pull the motor if you weren't already planning to. It might be a little easier to do it with it out, but it wasn't that bad still in the car.
