The engine's head(cover) does not say VTEC so i believe it is not vtec. I also search the picture for d16 Vtec..and it looks different than mine.

other than turbo...what else can i do..evne to achieve like 30 to 40 HP...am only 17 and i dont have much experience with turbo. :'(

i think honda stop putting the word "Vtec"on the cover after 95 but im pretty sure yours is vtec (never heard of an ex non-vtec before) as for 30 - 40 hp u can get a good set of headers, exhaust, cold air intake n you're closer to that goal ** O and dont buy off ebay**

or with engines for that matter check for the solenoid that will tell you if you have vtec or not

oh and while your at it i SERIOUSLY think you need to read up on engines and performance before you send your $$$ down the toilet

header, exhaust, cai... = +17hp on a good day

is that worth the money?

remember he said he only have 1000 for parts and i think i speak for most people when i say as beginners we all started out with little bolt-on like those. he might not hit that goal of 30- 40 hp with it but its a start with the budget he have. he doesnt want to go turbo and swaping to b-series would cost him over 1000.

Check the engine code (Should be a D16Y8) or look for a VTEC solenoid. It should be a VTEC engine, some D16Y8s didn't have VTEC on the valve cover. BTW VTEC is not God's gift to automobiles, it's not going to make your car a rocket.

Better power/weight ratio? Turbo + stripped interior.

Power? Since you're obviously a n00b, start with some bolt-ons and maybe shoot for a HMT setup over the next few years. Do your research in the meantime. And D16s can put out anywhere from their 100ish HP stock to 400HP all-motor beasts, there is no one definitive answer on the ceiling for HP production.
