Default I got a crack on my header!!!!! 99 civic LX

help, I have a crack on the top half of my header near where the 02 sensor is. I want to replace it with another oem one. The car is a 99 sedan civic lx.

Question: Which oem headers will be compatible with my car?

They don't make a header for the DX/LX due to the catalytic converter.

Its very common for the manifold to crack right there and most any D series manifold will work. Although you might have to extend the o2 sensor depending on the year manifold you get.

How bad is the crack? Couldnt he just have a muffler shop weld it?

I think there is a really high chance it will crack again, right next to the weld, at least thats what I hear happens when you try to fix a manifold.

My opinion would be to get another one from a junkyard, should be more than $30 or so, and you should be able to change it out fairly easily with basic hand tools and a jack.

Depends on how good (or not good) the welder is.

Well the problem is that the catalytic convertor is built into the exhaust manifold, so there's more to it than just "buy an Ex header" and being done.

1. You will need to extend the o2 sensor wires - not as easy as it sounds

2. You will want to buy a new primary o2 sensor since it screws in right at the crack in the LX manifold - it will likely throw codes or break if you try to reuse it. it will install in the a-pipe portion of an Ex header, not up top where it is on a stock LX manifold

3. The exhaust will need to be shortened, and an Ex style "under engine" catalytic convertor with a secondary o2 sensor bung will need to be installed

If you don't want to deal with the headaches then spend the $500.00 or so on a new, genuine honda manifold/convertor piece since there are no good aftermarket ones, and used ones will probably either be cracked or will crack soon after installing them

Oh and lastly - you cannot weld that pourous, shitty cast iron and expect it to hold at all, especially since the primary o2 sensor has to screw right into where the crack always forms.

^sounds like you are speaking from experience lol

I decided to keep the original one, due to all the headaches I've encountered to try to get it fixed!

That is why I used a 96-98 EX Exhaust Manifold, it has one o2 bung on the top portion of the header so I onyl had to make one extension to the cat (used an Si cat back). Worked great too!

The 99-00 Ex exhaust manifold has the o2 bung at the bottom.

you can weld it.

try to use the smallest rod you can and lower the heat. try to use a dragging rod. cast iron is a bitch to weld without melting/burning so go quick, or maybe strike the arc do half an inch wait and let it cool naturally strike go again wait

as long as you know how to stop and starp correctly you can nail it

If you get a name brand header it will come with an o2 extension that is plug and play (atleast it came with my Apex'i GT spec manifold) and the EX manifold/header will bolt directly to you stock exhaust without a cat. But then again, you will have a CEL and if you have emissions testing, you won't pass....

Or you can spend $150ish on a header, $60ish on a testpipe, $10 on an o2 simulator and $170ish on a catback exhaust.
