Out-of-round tires(!).
By the way everyone . . . I bought a set of four Nankang N1 performance tires (215x45-17s) from Unser Tire. Two of the tires were out-of-round and the technician put them on the rear of the car to minimalize the shaking. He thought that after 1000-miles the two rears would true themselves up, but 'no' they did not. Unser was not responsive, so I'm going to replace those two tires with two new ones. My tip: Apparently Unser Tire sells 'seconds' and I would avoid buying from them.
Yeah. I found Unser online, but now they've vanished(!). The Nankangs are great tires, but the two out-of-round ones are driving me nuts. Thanks for the reminder (Tire Rack). I've bought from them before and yes, they are reliable.
A) out-of-round is a manufacturer defect and you should get a refund because the seller should get a refund.......try contacting Nankang directly if you really want your money back
B) Nankangs are economy-performance (ie cheap) tires. You get what you pay for, unless you overpaid in which case you were just ripped off.
If this Unser company is being shady, you could try contacting the BBB
The out of round will most likely not go away.....you can have them roadforce balanced and turned on the rim to try to minimize the problem, but it depends on how bad it is.

Thanks for the tip. In fact, I've tried to find someplace around here that will 'shave' the tires (to true round) but no one does it. I used to live in Sacramento where you could get anything done, even shaving tires. But I guess that's a service that no one does anymore. Anyway, I'm just going to buy two more tires and keep these as spare backups. Appreciate the help!
yeah no one does that anymore. but i work at goodyear and when we have tires that are out of round, we take them back and send them back to goodyear, and give the customer a good one. no charge to the customer.

i'm not sure you completely understand what "out-of-round" is.
it doesn't just mean that the tire has excess rubber that can be shaved off.
there can be radial as well as lateral variances in the tire which are inherent to the mold. It is a "DEFECT."
would you accept a defective product from anywhere else?
