Default b16a or b18b worth it in a eg/ek

i used to run a dc2 gsr that made around mid 180s to the wheels.

how would an ek or eg with a pretty much stock b16a/b18b fair in a street line against one?
\
what about "fun-ness" in driving...?

thankz

I tell you, The B16a is definatelly a fun engine BUT, you will find yourself shifting 5-6k just to keep up with traffic.
The fun starts at 5600 (WOT)

I blew my B16a and decided to buy a B20 (similar to the b18b) because I wanted something easier for daily driving. It has more ***** down low with no need to rev that high for cruising.

I will be rebuilding my b16a in about a year and will find and EF/EG to put it in. B16a's are the **** in really light cars

i had a b16 in my eg. keeping up with traffic was now problem. i used to shift at 3-3.5k most of the time. both are good motors and both are good foundations.

stock, my b16 ran a 14.7. b18's shoudl be around 15.0; closer to 14.8 if you have a b16 tranny on it. we have a couple 12 second all motor b16's running around. easy to do, and doesn't break the bank.

Here's a real-world scenario for you:

I know 2 brothers. One has a CX with B20Z motor with Skunk2 mandifold and LS tranny, , while the other has a DX hatch with a JDM second-gen B16A (170hp) swap.

They race, and the B16A DX wins hands down.

I'd say that's a good argument for the B16A ove the B20Z, and especially the LS since the B20Z with Skunk2 is definately stronger, right?

Why worry that you have to rev the **** out of the B16A just to pass people? That's actaually half the fun.

its definately worth it, if you have the bank, go with the b20z..... if you want to go the cheaper way get a b16...cheap as hell and you can rev to the sky but you have to sacrifice the torque.......if you have problems deciding, buy both and theres no argument.... FRANKINSTEIN! the b16a is fun as hell if you go canyon carving....

yah just wondering how easy is it do get 12's on a b16? Wondering because Iam deciding what swap to do for my cx. So can you tell me what it took for those cars to hit 12's(Iam only really looking for low 13's) with their b16. Thanks for the help.

b16 in eg is ok (non si)
b16 in ek is a snail

I`d go at least 1.8 in an ek. I chose 2.0

b16 is a fun motor. throw a b17 crank in there and have more fun.

he's asking about a sixteen or b1. he didn't ask about a c1. trust me, he's probably thought about a c1, hell he used to have one, but he's not asking about that here.

hell if you wanna have fun all motor... get a P72 gs-r head and slap it on a B16A block. The CR is higher. I built one and sold it. It was hella fun driving that monster!!! it had a Skunk2 manifold, lightened flywheel and a ITR intake cam.

U guys need to start answering his question..

and stop bringing up OTHER ******* MOTORS!!

he asked about b16a and b18b..

all of a sudden.. the b18c1 and the c5 came out of no where.. Ok Rice boys.. we get it

Now bringing up the b20 is ok, since the b20 is basically the same as a b18b.

I personally would go with a b18b and go Boost.. u can run 11-13psi stock on a Ls block with the right tuning and fuel managment,..

I know someone running a b20 with around 13-15psi of boost with a SAFC
its all about tuning bro

Well my cousin ran a 14.5 with a stock 95 ls motor and ls tranny in his vx. Its all about the driver too. I have a 95 ls right now with a gsr tranny in my eg hatch and it moves ok but I'm running it with a p28. I personally go with the b18b cause the b16's just don't have the tourque to get you movin.
